SGBC Family News | May 22, 2020

Dear SGBC Brothers and Sisters,

Thanks to the grace of God and the efforts of the volunteers of the Children’s Ministry, the online children worship was launched successfully last Sunday (May 17). We are glad to see SGBC children and parents joining happily. And on past Wednesday (May 20th), the “Family Shepherding Parents Meeting” was also held, a sharing night where Pastor Karen Lam and Mrs. Bernice Wu led the parents to discuss on having “Family Altar” to lead their children to grown up in faith. Moreover, for the “Love In Action – 1: DIY Masks” from the Outreach and Evangelism Department (OE), with the efforts of 9 sewers, the total number of masks produced has exceeded 1,500, and more than 1,300 masks have been presented to our neighbors in need in the community and different organizations. Attached to the newsletter last Friday (May 15) there was the special edition of the “SGBC Mission Road” produced by the Mission Department. It beautiful and rich in content. Don't miss it!

Philippians 2:4 reminds us to follow the example of Christ: “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Let us care more about the relatives and friends around us, our neighbors and the community.

New Opportunity for Outreach – Alpha Course Online

The impact of the epidemic on the world makes us feel that life is short and fragile. The OE Department hopes that brothers and sisters can seize the opportunity so that those who do not believe in Christ can hear the gospel and receive eternal and abundant life. Therefore, the church is preparing to launch the "SGBC Alpha Online". This course allows participating friends to explore the true meaning of life together in an open and friendly setting.

This event is held in Cantonese which includes watching short videos and group discussions. The OE Department is planning to start this course on June 3 and it will be held over video conferencing. We encourage brothers and sisters to invite friends and family to join us and spend a relaxing yet meaningful evening at home. For registration details, please pay visit the church website, or contact Elton Fung at the OE Department: [email protected], (647) 547-3618.

SGBC Connect – Love In Action 2: “Meals on Wheels” Campaign

Senior citizens are some of the most vulnerable among us. They can be in grave danger if they catch a virus like COVID-19, but SGBC can serve them by making sure they still get what they need, just when cooking or leaving home for groceries shopping become impossible. Join force with Carefirst Senior Community Service, SGBC-OE Ministry is now campaigning a second stage of “Love in Action” community care projects: Meals on Wheels and Groceries Shopping! Please see details from SGBC Family News 5.15.20.

Carefirst produced a 30 minutes video on YouTube Channel about this COVID-19 Emergency Community Support Program that will give you a more comprehensive picture: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVznxnWOY-o&t=806s

Right now, we have only 5 brothers and sisters who have registered to join, but we need more volunteers to support and to carry out this action. For enquires and registration, please contact SGBC @ 647-547-3618 or [email protected].

SGBC 13th Anniversary Preparation

In the hope of producing a short film for our 13th anniversary which will be shown in the joint anniversary worship on June 14, we are now soliciting and collecting photos of SGBC members. For brothers and sisters and friends who attend SGBC worship, we’d like to invite you to submit a recent photo of you to the church. If you attend a life group, please also take a group photo during group meeting online and send it to us through your life group leader. For those who don’t attend a life group but are willing to participate in this short film, please send a recent photo of you to church office. All photos will need to be sent to church office by May 31: [email protected]. For enquiries: 647-547-3618. All the photos provided will only be used in the anniversary short film and archived on the SGBC YouTube channel.

Pray that this newsletter will help us walk in the Truth and face the trying times together! See you Sunday!
