SGBC Family News | May 29, 2020

Dear SGBC Brothers and Sisters,

In an instant, we have been worshipping online for more than two months. While practicing physical distancing according to the rule from the provincial government during this pandemic, we also strive to stay connected with our brothers and sisters and to care for each other in this big church family. We would like to add another opportunity to connect with each other. Starting on the first Sunday of June we will take the advantage of 15 minutes before worship to greet each other on the chat function on YouTube while sharing some church family news on the live broadcast.

Christian Movies Recommendation

The book “Tortured for Christ” was printed in more than 10 million copies and translated into sixty languages which has touched many lives. This book records the real story of a priest who was persecuted in the Iron Curtain country and how he kept his faith. This movie was filmed according to the original book which is about an hour in length. Now free to watch, don't miss it. https://www.persecution.com/tfcmovieevent/

Online Resources for Your Soul

COVID-19 might have brought us anxiousness, restlessness, and panic, but Lord Jesus Christ has promised us peace: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (John 14:27) Let’s ask the Lord to help us grasp His love and to share His love with those around us. Let our love and care be like the five loaves and two fish which can be used as blessings, support and encouragement to each other. “Focus On the Family” has great resources not only on family or parenting but for anyone who would like some support for their soul. It’d also be useful in pre-evangelism work as well. Focus On the Family: https://www.focusonthefamily.ca/life-challenges

SGBC 13th Anniversary Preparation

In the hope of producing a short film for our 13th anniversary which will be shown in the joint anniversary worship on June 14, we are now soliciting and collecting photos of SGBC members. For brothers and sisters and friends who attend SGBC worship, we’d like to invite you to submit a recent photo of you to the church. If you attend a life group, please also take a group photo during group meeting online and send it to us through your life group leader. For those who don’t attend a life group but are willing to participate in this short film, please send a recent photo of you to church office. All photos will need to be sent to church office by May 31: [email protected]. For enquiries: 647-547-3618. All the photos provided will only be used in the anniversary short film and archived on the SGBC YouTube channel.

Tithes & Offering – Online “Giving & Support”

New Opportunity for Outreach – Alpha Course Online

The impact of the epidemic on the world makes us feel that life is short and fragile. The OE Department hopes that brothers and sisters can seize the opportunity so that those who do not believe in Christ can hear the gospel and receive eternal and abundant life. Therefore, the church is preparing to launch the "SGBC Alpha Online". This course allows participating friends to explore the true meaning of life together in an open and friendly setting.

This event is held in Cantonese which includes watching short videos and group discussions. The OE Department is planning to start this course on June 3 and it will be held over video conferencing. We encourage brothers and sisters to invite friends and family to join us and spend a relaxing yet meaningful evening at home. For registration details, please pay visit the church website, or contact Elton Fung at the OE Department: [email protected], (647) 547-3618.

Pray that this newsletter will help us walk in the Truth and face the trying times together! See you Sunday!
