SGBC Family News | May 8, 2020

Dear SGBC Brothers and Sisters,

Blessed Mother's Day weekend! On this occasion, may God bless mothers and give you good spiritual blessings. May the mothers be pleased with the work in their hands and know the beauty of you in the eyes of God. Due to the impact of the pandemic, we may not be able to celebrate Mother's Day physically with our family, but we hope that mothers will feel the love of God and the care from each other even more deeply. Let us also remember and remember brothers, sisters and relatives who lost their mothers this year, and may God's comfort come into their hearts.

The Reconnect Ministry in Toronto would like to acknowledge and show appreciation to all our mothers with a free video in Cantonese on “Challenges and Secret to Success of 21st Century Mothers”.

Good News on SGBC Building Funds

Upon the promise of 1:3 donations matching for the Walkathon fundraising on May 19, 2019 and also the rest of the fundraising in 2019, it was confirmed by our bank on May 4 that matching donations of CAD $660,000 has been received from Lok Xin Charitable Foundation. Praise the LORD! We are grateful to the LORD for letting us experience His abundant grace and faithfulness in the face of economic turmoil under the pandemic. We also deeply appreciate Lok Xin Charitable Foundation's donations in love to support the work of God's family in accordance with the original plan even under the pandemic situation.

Family Shepherding

Parents of G.1-8 children and preteens please watch this 6-minute video: https://youtu.be/CHSLZE5vdS8

In the past few weeks, our children have lost their own corporate worship. Even though they now have the opportunity to get a taste of worshipping with parents at home, worshipping with a group of children led by a spiritual leader cannot be replaced by family altar where parents guide their children in worship. The two are complementary and are equally valuable and important which help our children grow in the Lord. Hence, SGBC will be starting online children worship on May 17. On the other hand, there will also be an online sharing session for parents on May 20 and May 27 to introduce and help parents establish family altar and mentor their children at home. Please keep an eye on upcoming details and announcements.

Online Children Worship

Online children worship will be launched next Sunday on May 17. Parents could find the link on our SGBC website by next Saturday. To accommodate different families' needs, we will broadcast children worship at 8:45am & 10:30am and we encourage parents to choose a set time to join worship with their children. Children worship will be about 20 minutes long.

Weekend Music Fun

At our sincere invitation, Hong Kong's famous “Music Seeds Garden” is offering SGBC schoolaged children music activities for four consecutive Fridays and Saturdays hoping to provide families some fun and education. Praise the Lord for His grace and the participation from families, we now have a total of 24 children joining “Stay Home with Beethoven” (for 2.5-5 years old) and “Online Music Theatre” (for 6-11 years old). Please keep the children in prayers so that they can concentrate, engage and enjoy these educational music sessions.

New Opportunity for Outreach – Alpha Course Online

The impact of the epidemic on the world makes us feel that life is short and fragile. The OE Department hopes that brothers and sisters can seize the opportunity so that those who do not believe in Christ can hear the gospel and receive eternal and abundant life. Therefore, the church is preparing to launch the "SGBC Alpha Online". This course allows participating friends to explore the true meaning of life together in an open and friendly setting.

This event is held in Cantonese which includes watching short videos and group discussions. The OE Department is planning to start this course on June 3 and it will be held over video conferencing. We encourage brothers and sisters to invite friends and family to join us and spend a relaxing yet meaningful evening at home. For registration details, please pay visit the church website, or contact Elton Fung at the OE Department: [email protected], (647) 547-3618.

Pray that this newsletter will help us walk in the Truth and face the trying times together! See you Sunday!
